H-0.8 is the horizontal working plane at 0.8 m, H-0.0 the floor or surface, V a vertical plane at the stated height. 50 lx on the floor and 75 lx on the rack are different requirements for one warehouse, which is why the table keeps them apart.
How to use the table
- The norm is set for the whole service life of the installation, not for the day it is commissioned. That is why the maintenance factor MF enters the calculation (Annex 1, Table 3): 0.67-0.71 for clean halls, 0.71 for sales floors and offices, 0.63-0.67 for streets.
- In a production hall the norm is set per area: one bay can hold areas of different classes.
- The scale of normalised illuminance is set by item 5: 20, 30, 40, 50, 75, 100, 125, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 750, 1000 lx and so on. Values such as “250 lx” are not in the norm; take the nearest step of the scale.
- If the client’s specification asks for more than the norm, the design follows the specification, but never goes below the norm.
What the table does not cover
- Greenhouses and rooms for plants are excluded from the scope of ShNK. Light for people in the aisles is set by the specification, and grow lighting is calculated in PAR by agronomy.
- The norm excludes sports venues as such from its scope: competition and broadcasting levels are set by the federation rules and the broadcaster. EN 12193 works as a reference, but it is not a norm of Uzbekistan.
- Values for a production hall depend on the task category, so there is no “single figure for a hall”. The full table with Kp, UGR and Ra is in the article Illuminance norms ShNK 2.01.05-24 by facility type.

Frequently asked questions
What is the illuminance norm for a warehouse?
50 lx on the floor in the storage zone and 75 lx on the racks in the vertical plane, 200 lx at receiving and dispatch, 300 lx at sorting (Annex 9, Table 2, items 65, 70).
Is street illuminance set in lux or in cd/m²?
The norm sets the average road surface luminance in cd/m² and gives illuminance in lux as an alternative (Table 15). For a category B street that is 0.6-1.0 cd/m² or 10-15 lx, depending on traffic.
Is there an illuminance norm for a greenhouse?
No. Rooms for plants are excluded from the scope of ShNK 2.01.05-24; the specification sets the norm for light for people, and grow lighting is calculated in PAR by agronomy.
